May 2017 – Laura W. Brill, a co-founding partner at KBK, once again is ranked among the state’s Top Women Lawyers by California’s largest legal publication, the Daily Journal. The paper has honored her by placing her on the list almost every year since 2006.
The Daily Journal recognized Ms. Brill for her work on complex civil litigation and appeals relating to media, entertainment, commercial and regulatory disputes. It also noted her special interest in constitutional issues and cited a Los Angeles County voting rights case. Ms. Brill is lead counsel for the County of Los Angeles in filing a legal challenge to a law that establishes a redistricting process that only applies to the county. As the Daily Journal noted, the case argues that this process is discriminatory because it applies to only one county and that the process itself would discriminate against independent voters.
The publication also noted Ms. Brill’s leadership in gathering the support of the legal community for members of the judiciary who have been publicly criticized by President Donald Trump after issuing rulings he disputed. Nearly 7,000 attorneys and law professors from around the country have signed letters she authored in support of the judges.
