June 2016 – The LA Business Journal featured KBK partner Bert Deixler in this week’s edition, describing his purchase of Los Angeles’ oldest independent book store, Chevalier’s Books in Larchmont. A veteran trial attorney who has litigated cases involving more than 25 reported decisions and prevailed in appearances before the U.S. Supreme Court, Mr. Deixler took on the book store in addition to his busy law practice after a conversation with a client.
Mr. Deixler and the client, Darryl Holter, chief executive of the Downtown L.A. Auto Group, were discussing their love of books and Chevalier’s when Mr. Holter suggested they should buy the book store. They purchased it in October 2014 and have been managing it since as both a book store and a space to bring in speakers, authors, musicians, and panelists for a series of special events.
Another of those events will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22. Please join Mr. Deixler and KBK partner Laura Brill for an enlightening discussion of the book, “Because of Sex: One Law, Ten Cases, and Fifty Years That Changed American Women’s Lives at Work,” with author Gillian Thomas and pioneering attorney and feminist advocate Susan Estrich.
